GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)-  The holidays are in full swing and West Michigan is in the spirit of the season.  There are all sorts of fun things to do around town and we’ve put together a handy list to help you decide!

Coopersville & Marne Railway Santa Train

All aboard!  The Coopersville Santa train is a 90 minute experience for families where kids get to ride the train with Santa and his elves.

Christmas & Holiday Traditions Around the World at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

Explore Christmas traditions from around the world!  This annual event features 400,000 lights, strolling carolers, visits from Santa, rooftop reindeer and more than 40 international trees and displays.

Deer Tracks Junction

The Christmas Experience Package includes the Wildlife Safari Tour with the Grinch where you will get to see and pet  adult wildlife, visiting with Santa, playing on the large outdoor Play area and strolling through all of the beautiful Christmas Decorations. Warm up with hot cocoa or coffee for sale at the indoor Plop Plop Ice Cream Shop or enjoy some of our delicious Farm Fresh Ice Cream.

See this magical holiday story come to life on stage as you watch Clara go on a very special Christmas experience with her beloved Nutcracker.

Christmas for the Animals at John Ball’s Zoo

Animals like Christmas too! Come spread the joy of the season with some furry friends. On December 3, 2016 come on down and bring a gift for an animal to receive zoo admission and the chance to visit with Santa and his reindeer – all FREE as a thank you from the animals. Your donations help stock the shelves to take care of the animals for the entire year. Beauty and the Beast at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre

Beauty and the Beast is coming to town. Belle selflessly gives up her freedom to a furious master in order to protect her father. She is then forced to live in an enchanted castle as a prisoner and finds love in the most unexpected way with the most unexpected person. Witness Disney’s award winning tale as old as time and a Holiday Favorite of 2016 come to life right here in West Michigan! Tickets vary by seat but start as low as $18.

Feel the Zeal of Giving

Visit with Santa and his reindeer, take a horse drawn carriage ride, indulge in extended shopping hours and discounts,check out impressive ice sculptures, and enjoy some yummy seasonal snacks all in downtown Zeeland. All the proceeds will be donated to a local non-profit. This 3 day event is a chance to make some lifelong memories and give back to a good cause. For information on events, visit their website.

See what is was like at the first Christmas with this hands on interactive production.

Admission is free, however donations are appreciated. If you’re planning on bringing a group please call ahead.

Winter Walks at Frederik Meijer Gardens

Christmas is the most happiest time of year, especially at Frederik Meijer Gardens. In addition to the  Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World exhibit, you can also enjoy one of the Winter Walks tours with the kids and explore various winter themes.

Whoville 5K and Kids Fun Run

Put some holiday spirit in your step by getting out and being active. In this fun run you can race alongside your favorite Dr. Seuss characters and enjoy hot chocolate and chocolate fountain goodies when you’re all done!

The Ghosts of Christmas Eve at Van Andel Arena

The Van Andel Area is celebrating 20 years with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s performance of the rock opera, “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve”. This show is different from your typical Christmas show but it’s wonderfully entertaining and you won’t want it to end.

“A Christmas Story the Musical” at DeVos Performance Hall

It wouldn’t be Christmas without at least one viewing of the classic movie “A Christmas Story” and this year you can watch the musical presented by Broadway Grand Rapids. You can personally witness all the crazy situations Ralphie and his friends find themselves in along with the staple family antics you know all too well. You will laugh so hard tinsel will come out of your nose!
