Meet Bonnie Nawara. She’s the CEO for Grand Rapids Opportunity for Women based in Grand Rapids.  While Bonnie is normally focused on running this amazing organization that supports and empowers local business women there’s a lot more to know about this power woman and her career.

Question 1: Describe your job and why you love it.

I am the CEO of Grand Rapids Opportunities for women (GROW). I love my job because it is all about empowering women and helping them grow and prosper.

Question 2: Dig through your purse and tell us three must have items you found and 1 item you were surprised to find.

Brush, lipstick, keys and a band-aid.

Question 3: When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?

A baton twirler.

Question 4: What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

You can do and be anything you want.

Question 5: What’s the job you’ve had (in your lifetime) that still gives you nightmares?

My time as an employment counselor – too many people to manage!

Question 6: What’s the best thing you’ve done to advance your career?

Always taken advantage of any opportunity that was presented.

Question 8: Crying at work? Okay or not okay?

Tears are a sign of good mental health. For sure OKAY at work.

Question 9: Work/life balance? How do you make it work? What time do you “clock out”?

I struggle with that one. My clock out time varies, but I am comfortable with my balance.

Question 10: Eating lunch at your desk? A do or a don’t?

A do!

Question 11: What makes you grateful?

God’s grace in nature.

Question 12: What was your biggest blunder in a job? What did it teach you?

Clipping articles on management and putting them on my bosses desk.

Question 13: Describe your morning routine.

Get up, brush teeth, shower, makeup, hair, coffee and what ever I can find for breakfast. Out the door start to finish in 45 minutes.

Question 14: Proudest career moment to date.

Owning my own business for 20 years, being able to sell the business, and reinvent myself.

Question 15: What’s the most important thing in your life right now?

My emotional well being.

Question 16: What time did you wake up today?

7 a.m.

Question 17: What’s the first thing you notice when you meet someone?

Eye contact.

Question 18: What are you reading right now?

Any book by Michael Connelly.

Question 19: In a typical day how many emails do you answer?

60 to 70.

Question 20: What’s your favorite TV show?

I don’t watch TV.

Question 21: What’s your favorite spot for a meeting in West Michigan?

Wealthy Street Bakery.

Question 22: What’s your favorite app?

Euchre – its mindless entertainment.

Question 23: What experience in life made you the most nervous?

Free falling from the sky needle in Las Vegas.

Question 24: What’s one question you always ask in an interview?

My team.
