Question 1: Describe your job and why you love it.

My job involves helping people find wellness and be well. So its not job at all! I am at heart, a fixer. I love making things better and leaving everything better than when I found it. So for me, the job itself is its own reward.

Question 2: Dig through your purse and tell us three must have items you found and 1 item you were surprised to find.

MUST HAVE- reusable shopping bag, Jane Iredale lip balm, and a small bottle of frankincense oil. Surprise! A small tape measure, handy.

Question 3: When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was in kindergarten I once told someone that I wanted to be a hippie when I grew up. Score!

Question 4: What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

To never look out at what others are doing but to instead focus inward and design my own business model. So be the leader, rather than the follower.

Question 5: What’s the job you’ve had (in your lifetime) that still gives you nightmares?

Well I wouldn’t say “nightmares” anyway but a job choice that still makes me shake my head to think about it was a job at a small software company where my role was database manager. I was the ONLY woman there aside from a receptionist. There was a luncheon one day that I heard all of the guys talking about attending so I asked about where and when it was and was told that it was strictly for business”men”. So basically due to my anatomy and regardless of the fact that I was their manager I was not to be included. The owner of the company told me that I could instead take the receptionist out to lunch as his treat and talk about girl stuff. I lasted there approximately 3 months.

Question 6: What’s the best thing you’ve done to advance your career?

Having my position eliminated at a company I was employed by right after they had been bought out by another larger company. I would not have been likely to leave the corporate world on my own but after being pushed out, I almost went right back into the same market in the same job and then….I decided to “go for it” instead and create my own business.

Question 7: Flats or heels?

Question 8: Crying at work? Okay or not okay?

What are we crying about? I mean gosh, if you are upset and need to let that out please do. It is never good to suppress natural urges. Maybe better to not be in a job that makes you cry. Unless its tears of joy!

Question 9: Work/life balance? How do you make it work? What time do you “clock out”?

8pm! We have a hard “no technology” after 8pm rule. Unless my husband is on call. Phones can go back on after 7am.

Question 10: Eating lunch at your desk? A do or a don’t?

When you eat, just eat. It is a good thing to take a break and then you are more productive when you are actually working. Be mindful while eating. This is a good practice to develop anyway to maintain balanced health.

Question 11: What makes you grateful?

My husband, daughter, family and friends, and my life. Everyday I wake up again. The weather.  My chickens and cats. All of the nature that surrounds my house. Every Yoga student and wellness client I have ever had. I can go on but…you know? Every moment. That about sums it up.

Question 12: What was your biggest blunder in a job interview? What did it teach you?

I lied about education and was busted on it. It was for my first “real” career job and I was perhaps 19. I think you think you can get away with anything at that age. Anyway, I had always been ashamed of the fact that I had not finished high school so I made up a story that I did but they checked on it. Oops. It was very freeing for me personally later in life to fess up about that. I think that really taught me to be grateful of my journey and to be very real about who I am and to never pretend to be anything or anyone else.

Question 13: Describe your morning routine.

Really? Just remember, you asked. Wake up, splash eyes with cold water. Brush teeth, scrape tongue. Nasal rinse then oil nasal passage. Floss. Drink hot lemon water. Do my 10 movements to move all my joints. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, do 25 push-ups. Tuesday, Thursday do 50 abdominal roll ups. Poop. Feed Squirrels. Make breakfast and clean up from that. Meditate 10 minutes. Shower, dress, go do stuff.

Question 14: Proudest career moment to date.

I cannot nail it down to any one moment at all. I am not as much proud as I am grateful for all of the experiences I have had that have shaped me into the person I am becoming. I guess I can say that I am proud to be where I am right now.

Question 15: What’s the most important thing in your life right now?

Time. Really enjoying my time and everything I do with it. You get to the point where you truly realize how precious time itself is.

Question 16: What time did you wake up today?

6:30 a.m.

Question 17: What’s the first thing you notice when you meet someone?

How happy they are.

Question 18: What are you reading right now?

The Stranglers Vine. My husband picks books for both of us and I just read whatever he has chosen and is next. I usually have a kindle book going and an audio book for car. I just finished The Nightingale.

Question 19: In a typical day how many emails do you answer?

No idea. Lots, sometimes a few. Probably too many.

Question 20: What’s your favorite TV show?

Right now we are enjoying “The Night Of”. I am admittedly a huge Game of Thrones fan and have read all of the books as well.

Question 21: What’s your favorite spot for a meeting in West Michigan?

Social – Rockford Brewing Company, very close and good beer. Business I like to meet someplace with tea or nice coffees. I would say Rowsters on Wealthy.

Question 22: What’s your favorite app?

Bunny Free! I just downloaded it recently and I can type any product name in and it will tell me if it is cruelty free or not. LOVE IT.

Question 23: What experience in life made you the most nervous?

Every single time I teach Yoga in front of a large group of people or a speaking engagement. I am literally nervous right up to the point I begin, like stomach churning, sweating up a storm and then once I start I kind of go on auto pilot and everything is fine!

Question 24: What’s one question you always ask in an interview?

What is your special power?

Question 25: What’s the best part of your job?

Watching people get well and become happier. It is really the best thing ever.
