GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) – Fall is the start of the Vata season. The Vata dosha can become aggravated in the Fall due to the seasonal changes here in Michigan and leave you feeling, well, vata deranged.

What does that look like you ask? Here are some common symptoms:

  • dry skin and or hair
  • achy joints
  • restless sleep
  • irregular evacuation or constipation
  • gas and bloating
  • lower backache
  • erratic or unfocused mind
  • earaches
  • worry, anxiety, insecurity loneliness

There are several Ayurvedic practices that one can try to counteract the dryness of vata season and Nasya is one of them. Nasya is the introduction of medicated oil into the nasal passage. Its easy to do and bonus will also help with symptoms of allergies and headaches.

Lie on your back, face up, I like to lay with my head hanging over the edge of the bed. Put 3–5 drops of medicated nasal oil in each nostril. Rest with your head in this position for 1-3 minutes. If you do not have nasya oil, you can also try a good quality refined sesame oil or even olive oil.
