GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) – 74% of all Americans have been touched by Domestic Violence. One of the leading experts in the field of domestic abuse and violence is Lundy Bancroft. He has written several books including, Why Does He Do That?, Daily Wisdom For Why Does He Do That?,The Batter As Parent, When Dad Hurts Mom, Should I Stay of Should I Go? DAWN Attorney’s for Women is excited to bring Mr. Bancroft to Grand Rapids. He will present a workshop for professionals dealing with victims and perpetrators of Domestic Violence followed by a FREE evening event that is open to the public.
- Bancroft will draw from his years of experience working with perpetrators of domestic violence as well as victims. Some of the subjects he covers are:
- Training professionals on best practices for intervening with male perpetrators of violence against women, toward the goal of promoting accountability and requiring change.
- Training professionals on the dynamics of emotional injury and recovery in children who are exposed to a man who abuses their mother, to prepare participants to offer the most effective and safe assistance possible to children and their mothers.
- Supporting healing and empowerment for abused women, with an emphasis on advocating for the human rights of mothers and their children.
This workshop is geared toward Child Protection Workers, Police Officers, Court Workers, Judges, Attorneys, Therapists, Clergy and anyone working with abusers or their victims.

5:30-7:30 Mr. Bancroft will speak about inspiring victims to gain their freedom as well as how we can aide our community to end Domestic Violence followed by a social hour where his books will be available for purchase. Mr. Bancroftt will also be available for book signing during the remainder of the evening. Our fundraiser, BUY A BOOK/GIVE A BOOK, is a great opportunity to support the YWCA of Western Michigan and Safe Haven Ministries with their programs for domestic violence victims. Safe Haven Ministries and the YWCA of Western Michigan will be providing information on local programs as well during the evening.
