GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) September is Family Meals Month. Sitting down to a meal as a family has tremendous benefits for children as well as adults. Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services says it’s an important time for families to connect and have conversation. Children who eat meals with their family are more likely to have positive behavior, do better in school, and avoid substance abuse.

The TalkSooner app helps parents bring up the important topic of substance abuse. Experts say parents should start discussing drugs and alcohol with their children around age nine. The TalkSooner.org app educates parents on different ways to talk to your kids, how to start important conversations, and how to look for signs of substance abuse.
