GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) A special family got the chance to have some extraordinary experiences, thanks to Make-A-Wish and John Ball Zoo.
Eleven-year-old Heather was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when she was eight years old and underwent two and a half years of chemotherapy. Make-A-Wish Michigan came to her and granted her wish of visiting the San Diego Zoo. Heather says the promise of her Make-A-Wish experience got her through her cancer treatments because it gave her something to look forward to.
John Ball Zoo stepped in to super-size her experience by having her be a zookeeper for a day! Heather got to feed penguins and a Bongo, weighed baby chicks, and helped clean a warthog stall.
Join Make-A-Wish Michigan to help create a life-changing experience for a child by participating in the Walk for Wishes at John Ball Zoo on Saturday, October 1. Registration is at 8 a.m., the opening ceremony is at 9 a.m., and the walk begins with a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. Registration is free and participants are encouraged to raise at least $100.
