Kick off your shoes! Benefits of bare feet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV)- There is an emerging science documenting how conductive contact with the Earth, which has is also known as Earthing or grounding is beneficial to your health.  Lucky for me I have one of the few occupations where I actually need to be barefoot. Summer in Michigan is the perfect time for it.

Going barefoot is beneficial to the musculoskeletal structure of your feet and ankles. By constantly wearing shoes and relying upon artificial arches our feet can become depend on the footwear itself and be less able to comfortably support our bodies without them.   Spending some quality time barefoot can help prevent a host of foot injuries: bunions, heel spurs, and bone deformities, among others. Wearing shoes, especially overly tight shoes, hold the foot in a cast like position preventing the natural movement that would occur within the foot structure as we move through our day.  This can lead to injury and generally unhealthy feet.

Make sure the outdoor space where you will be walking is free of any harmful debris or toxins (chemicals on your grass).  Walking barefoot upon the earth allows us to recharge our bodies and minds through the earth’s own electrons.  Sometimes enjoying better health is as easy as kicking off your shoes and wiggling those toes around in the grass or sand.
