BYRON CENTER, Mich. (WOTV) H.U.G.S. Ranch has been in Byron Center for 11 years, providing children and horses with a connection that has a healing effect.
H.U.G.S. stands for Hope, Understanding, Guidance, and Support. The interaction between children and horses provides mental, emotional, physical, and social healing to all participants. Many of the children who come to H.U.G.S. Ranch have physical or mental disabilities or have gone through personal tragedies or other hardship. At the same time, the horses themselves live with anxiety and depression and were headed for auction before they came to H.U.G.S. Interacting with the horses builds kids’ confidence and helps ease their anxiety. It’s also a healing experience for the horses.
The programs at H.U.G.S. are run by donation and most children do not have to pay to participate. H.U.G.S is holding two fundraising events in September. Visit their website or Facebook page to learn more about how you can help.
