Free produce for WIC recipients

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Families in Kent County can now have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, thanks to a program called Project FRESH.

Clients of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) can receive $20 worth of free produce from area farmers markets. They will also receive a brief class about the program, nutritional tips, and recipes. At the class, participants will receive a coupon booklet with ten two dollar coupons to use at local farmers markets.

To qualify, applicants can call the Kent County Health Department at (616) 632-7200 to sign up for one of the classes. The classes will be held in both English and Spanish through late July.
