GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)- There is nothing better than a bounty of sweet summer Michigan produce! My mom recently invited me over to teach me the secrets of making delicious freezer jam. I guess as a mom myself she wants me to learn to make my own instead of just taking all of hers! So i gathered up my quarts of strawberries, raspberries and rhubarb and rolled up my sleeves. Turns out, this process is so easy and delicious. I’m so excited to be able to carry on this summer family tradition and I’ve got lots of great gifts for my friends and neighbors too. Some day I’ll have to show my daughter, Kinsley, how to make this for her family. Here’s what you do!
Strawberry Freezer Jam
Step 1: Crush 2 cups of fresh strawberries and combine with 4 cups of white sugar (let stand 10 minutes)
Step 2: Combine (1.75 ounce) package dry pectin with 3/4 cup of water in a sauce pan and bring to a boil. Boil 1 minute (use a timer).
Step 3: Stir the boiling water/pectin mixture into the crushed strawberry. Let stand for 3 minutes (use a timer).
Step 4: Pour into jars or small tupperware containers.
Step 5: Lid your containers and leave out on the counter to set for 24 hours. Then freeze until ready to use.
**Mom’s Best Tip*** Make sure everything is exact! Your measurements and timing are everything to great jam!
