Natural remedies for summer bites, stings and sunburns

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)- Being and Ayurvedic counselor I generally chose to treat most every day health concerns with natural products found in my home.  Its likely that you might have some or all of these products in your home as well so here you go!

Insect Bites and Stings

Mosquito on human hand.

Sliced onion: onion contains anti-inflammatory enzymes.  Cut a slice and rub it on the affected area for fast relief.

Raw honey: the powerful anti-microbial properties of honey will soothe the itching and burning and also prevent infection.  Rub a small amount on the bite with a cotton swab.

Baking soda: Make a paste of baking soda and water.

Lavender oil: just a couple drops will stop the itch.

Aloe vera: this is a natural antiseptic and is very effective for bites and burns.  Cut a leaf from your plant and squeeze the pulp on to the skin massaging gently.

Sun Burn

Effect of 3 hours in the sun.

Turmeric and Sandalwood powder: Mix equal parts of powder with a small amount of cold water to make a paste, applying to the burned skin.  Rinse off later again with cool water.  *note!!  This also make an excellent facial mask for anytime!

Black tea: strong black tea.  Keep some chilled in your fridge and then use cotton pads to apply to any sunburned areas.

Coconut oil:  massage cooling coconut oil onto and into sunburned skin for instant relief.

Heat Rash

Close up of female sunburnt skin neck with allergic reaction.

Watermelon rind: Rub the white fleshy rind directly on to heat rash skin.  This will not only serve to soothe the skin but has healing properties as well.
