GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) – WOTV had the pleasure of attending Rocket Pies grand opening event, July 7, 2016. All we can say is, YUM! What a tasty treat.
Rocket Pies is the newest addition to the Grand Rapids Downtown Market. The eatery focuses on simple, Neapolitan-style pizzas and hearty salad bowls using many certified organic ingredients.
Rocket Pies uses “market-style” service and provides seating for 40 guests in the new combined space with Love’s Ice Cream. Yes, we’re thinking it too. Ice cream and pizza are next to each other? This could be dangerous. Both eateries are open later than the rest of the Market Hall, staying open until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday in the summer months.
Briefly mentioned above, in addition to pizza, Rocket Pies also serves salad bowls. This gives guests another option for a healthy and filling lunch or dinner. Bowls feature produce from Michigan family farms (love the local!) mixed with other veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains and legumes, and topped with dressings made with healthy, unrefined organic oils.
Rocket Pies, derived from “roquette,” the French term for arugula, start with a base of wild-leavened dough from specialty-milled, organic, US flour. The pizza’s thin, crispy-chewy crust is topped with combinations including DOP San Marzano tomatoes, fresh organic mozzarella cheese from Michigan grass-fed cows, veggies from Michigan farms and charcuterie from sustainable artisan salumerias. Vegan options are also available. There’s something for everybody.
Pizza and salad bowl options will vary depending on in-season produce, but latest offerings and creations can be found online. Six taps feature a rotating selection of local and other craft beer along with a selection of affordable wines from both Italy and the US.
Pizza and wine? Alright, it’s time for a girls night at Rocket Pies.
