GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) The Gustafson family has an extra family member these days: a Paws with a Cause puppy named Zephyr.

Maranda first saw Zephyr and the Gustafsons when they met Zephyr for the first time. Since then, Zephyr has grown to be a 25 pound three-month-old dog.

Zephyr is the second Paws puppy for the Gustafson family. The entire family is teaching basic commands and taking Zephyr out to get him used to being in public. Paws with a Cause is with them the entire way, holding puppy kindergarten classes to help foster families learn the commands they need to teach the puppies.

Paws with a Cause dogs are raised by foster families from eight weeks old for 18 months. Volunteers get the dogs used to public settings and work on obedience training. After foster care, the dogs return to Paws with a Cause to be trained in advanced commands to become a service dog.
