GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) – Staying motivated to exercise during the cold winter months can be tough. Going with girl friends is a great way to make working out fun! Besides socializing, knowing you have plans with another person creates a sense of accountability. Make it a group date at a local exercise class! I personally love classes. It’s always fun to try something new and I leave feeling accomplished (and dead tired). There are a lot to choose from that provide a little something different for everyone. Grab your girlfriends and hit one of these 4 classes:
FlexCity Fitness’s signature workout is Flex56. It’s an instructor led, small group training class that alternates between cardio and strength training. Everyday of the week is different, so the class stays fun and challenging. Each class is broken down into rounds that range from 5-12 minutes in length. The classes are challenging, but you are encouraged to go at your own speed so you’re constantly competing against yourself to go a little faster or do 3 more reps. It’s a great mix of cardio and weights so you leave feeling like you had a great full body workout. The first class is free so there’s no reason not to try! Go to flexcityfitness.com to learn more.
The Funky Buddha – Yoga Hothouse
The Funky Buddha is one of the more popular yoga studios in West Michigan. They have a lot of locations and really flexible class times throughout the day. If you’ve never done hot yoga before, the room feels kind of like a sauna. If you and your friends need to find a little zen, yoga will clear your mind. Not to say that these yoga classes are not challenging. The Funky Buddha has beginner classes and nighttime Slow Flow, but if you want to feel the burn try Power Vinyasa. Bring a small towel and water, because you will get sweaty. The room feels super cozy and comfortable when it’s freezing out, and you’ll leave the class feeling totally invigorated. Check out yogahothouse.com for details, there are lots of specials for new customers, like first month of unlimited yoga for $39!
This class is great for busy moms with young children. Stroller Strides is a total fitness workout made for moms to do with their babies. It includes intervals of power walking and body toning. This is a cool class because you use your stroller for some of the exercise moves! You can meet local moms while doing a little something for you! Stroller Strides instructors weave songs and activities into the routine designed to entertain and engage baby, while moms are led through a series of exercises specific to her role as mom.
