GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) A big part of being physically healthy is being mentally healthy as well. A West Michigan mom, Sarah Binkley-Tow, is doing something special to help moms with MomsBloom.

MomsBloom helps parents be successful by helping them set more realistic parenting expectations. There’s no such thing as a “Super Mom.”

Power of the Flower

  • Avoid using generic labels or terms
  • Emphasize abilities not limitations when talking about someone who has a mental illness
  • Pass it on
  • Explain why the statement was harmful and to realize that mental illness is a disease

Binkley-Tow is helping raise awareness of the program and good mental health by wearing a flower on her outfit every day in 2016. She says one of the leading causes of why people don’t seek mental health treatment is stigma. By gaining a little understanding about mental illness, we can help stop the stigma to make sure people get the support they need.
