What you need to know about the flu vaccine

Flu shot

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Flu season is here, and if you haven’t already gotten your flu shot, now is the time. Dr. Dan McGee from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital says it’s recommended that every person over the age of six months get a flu vaccine every year.

The flu virus mutates a little every year, so even if you’ve been vaccinated before, you need a new immunization each year. The flu shot does not give you the flu. Some people may get some aches and pains or a fever as part of the body’s normal response to the vaccine.

Dr. McGee says the best way to protect yourself from getting sick is to wash your hands.
