GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Halloween is a time to have fun and indulge in some sweets, but there are some ways to prevent a total sugar high. Shari Steinbach from Meijer has some healthy ideas for fun Halloween snacks.
Apple-Peanut Butter Smiles
Once your apples are cored and sliced, spread peanut butter on one side of each slice. Arrange a line of mini-marshmallows on half of the slices. Then top off with another slice of peanut butter slathered apple to make your big-toothed smiles.
Healthy Candy Corn Parfait
In a clear plastic glass, layer pineapple tidbits, mandarin orange segments, and light whipped topping. Garnish with candy corn.
Smiley Pumpkin Quesadillas
For six tortillas: use 12 small whole wheat tortillas and use a sharp knife to cut a jack-o-lantern face in six of the tortillas. Sprinkle the uncut tortillas with 2% shredded cheddar cheese and then top with a cut jack-o-lantern tortilla. Place tortillas on a baking sheet and cook at 350°F oven for 5-8 minutes or until cheese melts (can also make in the microwave).
Franken-Grape Snack Cups
Draw Frankenstein faces on tall plastic cups with permanent markers and sticker eyes (found in Meijer craft aisle). Fill cups with green grapes.
Deviled “Spider” Eggs
Prepare your favorite deviled egg recipe. To make spiders, use half a pitted black olive for the spider body and cut out eight spider legs from remaining olive half.
