GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) — Heart age is the topic of many across the country. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the age of your heart means how old your heart and blood vessels are as a result of your risk factors for heart attack and stroke.
Medical experts say you can actually test your own heart age by going to a website like HeartAge.me. You put some of your health information in and it gives you a result.
Your age could be 40 but your heart condition could be that of someone 45, 48 or more and with a higher heart age the risk to develop heart attack and stroke is also higher.
Once you know what your heart age is, it’s important to take those results and see a physician.
And while that checkup can tell you more about your heart age and where you stand health wise, there are also things you can do to help turn that aging heart around.
The CDC says most Americans have a heart age of 7 years older than they actually are.
There are things you can do to help turn your heart age around:
– Lower your cholesterol
– Eat healthy
– Manage your diabetes
– Don’t use tobacco
