What is Kendama?

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOTV) There’s an activity that’s been around for centuries, but is just becoming known in the United States.

Kendama has origins in Japan dating back to the 1700s. It’s a simple toy consisting of a wooden hammer and ball attached to it by a string. Using the toy teaches hand-eye coordination and focus and kids who use it say it has improved their performance in sports.

There is now a Kendama Club through the MACKite store in Grand Haven. It meets every third Thursday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Central Park in Grand Haven. It’s free to sign up!
