A great part of waking up is fresh coffee.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) — Mornings can be hectic. When it comes to getting yourself (and maybe three or four other family members) out the door, some days seem nearly impossible. Here are five quick tips to help save time in the morning:

Prep, prep, prep!

Checklist date
Make a routine to-do list that you can check before bed each night.

Do as much as you can the night before. That means pack lunches, pick out clothing, and have your daily agenda planned. One of my must-do prep items is set the coffee maker! Smelling fresh, hot coffee is incentive enough for me to roll out of bed.

Take a minute to wake up

Although you want to dive right in to your morning routine, take a minute to wake yourself up. Fighting grogginess is a great way to keep yourself moving in the morning with a clear mind. Try stretching for a minute, drinking a glass of cold water, or leaving your blinds open to let the natural sun light in.

Keep your beauty routine basic

Mornings where you have some extra time to get ready is great. However, days where it’s a scramble to get out the door have a five minute beauty routine. Carmindy from “What Not to Wear” has a fantastic makeup routine that she calls her ‘five minute face’.

Don’t skip breakfast

Even though you may be short on time, do not skip breakfast. It will give you fuel for your day, help you focus, and is part of a healthy diet. You don’t need to be whipping up anything fancy, keep things like bananas, yogurt, or granola on hand for a quick grab and go. If you want a hardier breakfast for kids, prepare a breakfast casserole the night before, keep it in the fridge, and pop it in the oven when you wake up.

Go to sleep in your workout clothes

Sleeping in your workout clothes makes it harder not to exercise in the morning.

If you work out in the morning, you go girl! Keep it up and make it less painful by sleeping in your workout clothes. It shaves minutes off your morning and gives you one less excuse to skip the gym.
