UNDATED (WOTV) – ABC Network Chief Meteorologist and “Good Morning America” regular Ginger Zee has announced she’s going to be a mom.
Along with a video about all of her latest adventures on ABC’s “GMA” – like hang gliding and swimming with sharks – Zee wrote on Facebook, “My most extreme adventure yet…MOTHERHOOD! Ben & I are beyond excited; baby forecast to arrive in December.”
I’m elated!” Zee wrote in an email Monday morning. “Real life!!! My career has always been my focus until I met Ben and realized there was a whole life out there. Now that life is expanding…literally. I’m bloated.”
When asked how becoming a mom would change her career, Zee said it would change it for the better.
“Being able to connect with a majority of our viewers who are parents is a lot more based in reality than the unique groups I’ve identified with before,” Zee said, noting stormchasers and paragliders. “At the same time, this will not stop me from chasing storms and traveling the world. I might just take less risk while doing it all.”
Zee added that she wants her child to have the same experiences she did growing up in Michigan.
“This baby better get used to taking flights back to GR because I hope to give it the same grounded experiences I grew up with on Lake Michigan,” she said. “I love where/how I grew up and want to expose [him or her] to all that Michigan has to offer.”
Zee, a Rockford, Mich. native, began her career at WGRD-FM in Grand Rapids. She went on to hold on-air positions as a meteorologist for WEYI-TV in Flint, WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, and WMAQ-TV in Chicago.
In 2011, Zee left Chicago for “Good Morning America Weekend in New York.” Then, in December 2013, she was named chief meteorologist for the network, following Sam Champion’s departure.
Zee, 34, has been married to reporter Ben Aaron since June 2014. She says she’s due around Christmas.
You can catch Zee on GMA weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
