GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV)- A bond between a father and his daughter is so special and unique. Father’s Day can be an extremely tough holiday after the loss of your dad. Suddenly, memories of the “only man you’ll ever trust” seem so far away and you find yourself feeling extremely blue. Here are 4 tips to cope with the loss of your dad on Father’s Day:
Surround yourself with love: Although your mind may be preoccupied with thoughts of your lost loved one, focus on all the positives in your life. Whether it’s your rockstar hubby, amazingly goofy friends, or adorable kids, think of how blessed you are to share your life with some pretty awesome people.
Reserve time for memories: Don’t completely avoid thinking about your loved one. Look through pictures, even write a letter to your father of things you want to share, questions you’ve had, and things you wish you had the time to say. Think of how proud he would be of you and how much he has taught you.
Start your own tradition: Mix it up and do something new on Father’s Day! Go out with a group of girlfriends or take the kids rock climbing, you may find a great new Father’s Day bonding activity.
WWDD (What Would Dad Do?): You learned a lot from dad and probably had a few special bonding activities, so celebrate him! If he loved carpentry, build something with the family. If the two of you never missed a Sunday game, get some tickets to the venue or junk food and head to the television.
