How to ease heel pain with yoga

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) — Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. It is an inflammation of the connective tissue on the sole of the foot.  It is generally more intense in the morning and lessens as the day goes on. To reduce inflammation it is helpful to avoid spicy foods and junk foods, also caffeine and alcohol. To lessen the muscular tightness that aggravates the condition try these simple techniques at home.

  1. Upon waking gently massage the soles of the feet prior to walking on them.
  2. Take a seat in virasana with the knees bent and heels next to the hips. This allows the fasciae bands on the soles of the feet to relax.
  3. Using a wall place one foot at a time against the wall with the knee bent above the ankle. The opposite leg is extended behind you and you can use both hands on the wall for support as you lean in.  Repeat both sides.

Ice and rest can be helpful as well and you might also try rolling the cave muscles with a wooden dowel.
