MARANDA’S PICK: Summer Reading Club Kick-off
Monday, June 8
Local libraries around West Michigan kick off the 2015 Summer Reading Club! Kids can sign up at their local library and spend their days reading great books all the while earning prizes and having fun!  Best of all it’s FREE!

Free Mega Sports Bible Camp, Duncan Lake Middle School, Caledonia
Monday, June 8 – Thursday, June 11, 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Free four-day summer event for four years old through kids entering sixth grade in the fall. Kids can choose between cheerleading, soccer, basketball, and crafts. Coaches will lead songs, stories, and hands-on lessons. Visit website to register.

MARANDA’S PICK: Grassland Birds and Pastures, W.K. Kellogg Pasture Dairy Center, Hickory Corners
Tuesday, June 9, 4 – 8 p.m.
Take a wagon tour of the pastures and learn about Michigan birds. Enjoy MSU Dairy Store ice cream and learn about robotic milking machines and sustainable dairy practices. Free!

Live entertainment, carnival rides, games, Barnyard Express, mobile zoo, Great Lakes Timber Show. Adults: $3; kids 10 and under: free. Family Fun Day on June 10. $18 wristbands for carnival rides all day, free admission, coffee, and donuts for seniors.

Wednesday, June 10, 4 – 8 p.m.
Downtown picnic dinner and hoedown, pony rides, llama rides, petting zoo, face painting, live music. $5 for picnics.

Bird Walk, Binder Park Zoo, Battle Creek
Wednesday, June 10, 7 p.m.
Family-friendly bird walk takes visitors on an after-hours tour of Binder Park Zoo. Led by Kellogg Bird Sanctuary coordinator. Free and open to the public.

LowellArts! Exploring Africa with Art! Free Youth Art Classes
June 11 – August 11, 1 – 3 p.m. or 3 – 5 p.m.
Students ages 7 to 12 are invited to a series of free workshops exploring Africa with art. Guest artists will work with students to create visual and performance art based on the culture and traditions of Africa.

Summer Wednesdays, Kalamazoo Valley Museum

Each Wednesday, the museum will offer ten different free crafts for visitors. Special planetarium shows and Challenger Learning Center missions offered each afternoon during Summer Wednesdays.

Camp Kroc, Grand Rapids Kroc Center

Campers aged 5– 12 attend Monday–Friday and enjoy activities like arts & crafts, sports, music, games, swimming, rock climbing, drama & talent shows, archery, giant slip & slide rides and weekly field trips. Cost per week: $125 per member child/$150 per non-member child. Before and after care are also available for an additional charge.

Da Vinci: The Exhibition, Air Zoo, Portage
Through June 30
Experience the breadth and scope of da Vinci’s incredibly advanced understanding of science, mathematics, nature, and the relationship between the three. Multimedia experiences and documentary presentations throughout the space will provide supplementary information on da Vinci’s discoveries and creative process. Free with admission.

Muskegon South Pierhead Light Tours, Pere Marquette Beach
Through Labor Day
Tours given of South Pierhead Light Monday and Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. $4 for adults and $2 for kids.

Kidstruction Zone, Grand Rapids Children’s Museum
Through November
Children can explore construction-related trades by scooping and pouring gravel, building a brick tower, move wheelbarrows, and use a conveyer belt. Included with admission.

The Discovery of King Tut, Grand Rapids Public Museum
Through January 2016
Exhibition explores the legendary tomb and its treasures as they were at the moment of their discovery. Tickets: $18 for adults, $17 for seniors, $13 for children 3-17, children 2 and under are free. Discounted admission for members. Tickets include general admission and free carousel ride.
