GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) — A new state law will require health care providers to tell women in their mammogram results letter if they have dense breast tissue.

The denser tissue can make it more difficult for a mammogram to spot cancer early.

Above, Dr. Judy Smith, the chief of oncology at Spectrum Health, walks you through what triggers a dense breast tissue notification, explaining the scorecard of sorts that assesses density and providing advice about what women can do if the are told their breast tissue is dense.
