IONIA, Mich.-Mercantile Bank of Michigan and Independent Bank offices in Ionia County entering in a friendly competition to collect items for the Ionia Montcalm (IM) Kids 3rd Meal program. The competition will be taking place from April 20th through May 15th. Mercantile Bank locations are collecting jelly and Independent Bank locations are collecting peanut butter, while both banks are collecting cash donations for bread.
Brian Talbot, SVP at Mercantile Bank of Michigan was ready for the challenge when approached to participate in the Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive. “Childhood hunger is something that impacts all of our communities. Good nutrition is one of the most important and basic needs in the development our kids. We are happy to be able to support IM Kids 3rd Meal in their efforts to provide these children with access to enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy lifestyle”.
In Ionia County 1 in 5 children are food insecure and in Montcalm County 1 in 4 are food insecure. Each 3rd meal that is given to a food insecure child, is a well-balanced, ready-to-eat meal. We are serving four schools; two schools in Ionia County and two schools in Montcalm County, with a total of roughly 450 food insecure children receiving 3rd meals.
“This is a great opportunity to positively impact many area children and provide them with nutrition when they otherwise wouldn’t have it. We hope the competition elevates the awareness of the program and keeps it in community members’ heads year round.” -Boomer Hoppough, VP Independent Bank.
Strong community support will keep this program running to reach more students. For more information on how you or your company can support IM Kids 3rd Meal program, please call IM Kids 3rd Meal at 616-527-4900, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.imkids.org.
