IONIA, Mich. (WOTV) The community of Ionia is coming out to support a little girl who is fighting cancer. Nine-year-old Kennedee was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in February. The last few months have been difficult for her family, but they say Kennedee makes it easier because she is always happy and has a smile on her face.
Kennedee’s story reached Ionia Public Safety Officer Mike Cronk, who is a school resource officer. He wanted to keep Kennedee’s smile on her face, so one day he arranged to give her and her friends a ride on a fire truck. He got some community partners around Ionia to donate gift cards for Kennedee’s family, for meals and other necessities.
Kennedee’s friends have been very loyal. Two of them shaved their heads when she started losing her hair. They formed Team Kennedee, making t-shirts to raise money for the family. Kennedee’s mother says the support from friends and community has been overwhelming and the family is forever grateful.
