GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Live Arts is taking over Van Andel Arena for one stunning night on Friday, April 24.
The idea behind the production started two years ago when the Grand Rapids Symphony wanted to do something amazing and bigger than anything they’ve done before. The program celebrates living arts in the community, incorporating the Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Ballet, and Broadway Grand Rapids all on one stage.
It took 100 feet of stage depth to include all of the 1,500 performers. There are four different stage areas, with more than 9,000 square feet to accommodate all of the people.
To make it a spectacular show, there are 136 moving lights affixed to 871 feet of aluminum truss near the ceiling. The wave screen, which recreates the Live Arts logo, is 160 feet wide and was made in Grand Rapids just for this event. The images on the screen will coincide with the music and what’s happening on stage.
