GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)- Pregnancy is the ultimate planning journey. For a little over nine months you are busy planning every detail for your baby’s arrival. You’ve picked out the perfect Pinterest-worthy nursery and written (and rewritten) your birth plan. But as every mom will tell you it’s easy to get caught up in the moment once baby arrives. One thing you want to make sure you plan well in advance is your newborn photo session.
Newborn photography is a popular trend among parents because you get to capture every detail of your perfect little baby in the first two weeks. Any mom can tell you, it’s great to have the photos because you’ll be sleep-deprived and a little overwhelmed. The newborn photos will be a timeless keepsake you’ll treasure for years to come. I’ve had many friends who have said, “I wish I would have done that,” or “I wanted to do this but never got around to it”.
Find a photographer
Once you decide to book your photos you’ll want to start by deciding on a photographer. Ask around and see who your friends, family or co-workers recommend. Check out those photographer’s websites or social media pages to determine if their style is a match with yours. You’ll also want to find a photographer who specializes in (or LOVES) babies. It may sound silly at first but some photographers have a magic touch when it comes to babies and children. Don’t wait too long. You’ll find that newborn photographers can book up quickly and only schedule a certain amount of sessions when they know their clients are expecting. I’d recommend booking in the first or second trimester.
Read the fine print
Next check the prices and conditions for photography sessions. You’ll find that prices vary greatly for a variety services. Things you’ll want to ask are, what is the session price and how long is a session? You’ll also want to find out if you have the rights to the photos and how many photos are included? Do you have to purchase prints separately? How much for digital copies?
Share your style
Once you decide on your photographer help introduce them to your style by using Pinterest to gather up images that you love. By creating an album of newborn photos you can show the types of props you like, background settings and ideas for family photos. After you pin the images meet with your photographer to discuss your ideas and build a relationship.
Be sure to include any special family mementos like a hand-knitted hat from your grandmother, a special headband or your husband’s favorite sporting team ect. These special touches will make your pictures truly your own!
