GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)-One small act of kindness can make a small difference, and that is exactly what one little boy is doing. Trenton Hopkins, a 6th grader at Saranac Elementary School, wanted to do a fundraiser for IM Kids 3rd Meal. After approaching his school, the Saranac Elementary Student Council held a Spirit Week to support IM Kids 3rd Meal. Each day was themed differently for the students to take part in dressing up. Students dressed for pajama day, wacky day, rainbow day, and sports day. To participate in the fun-filled day, students either paid $0.25 per day, or donated an item from the IM Kids 3rd Meal wish list. At the end of the week, Saranac Elementary Students raised $317.50 and a multitude of food items. These donations makes a big difference for children who are going to bed without a third meal of the day. It only takes one person to make a difference. If you are like Trenton Hopkins, and you’d like to initiate a drive at your school or church, you may send donations to H.O. Steele Education Center 10260 S Sheridan Rd. Fenwick, MI 48834.

Why is IM Kids 3rd Meal committed to ending childhood hunger in Ionia and Montcalm counties?
- In Ionia County 1 in 5 children are food insecure and in Montcalm County 1 in 4 are food insecure.
- Lack of enough healthy food can impair a child’s ability to concentrate and perform well in school.
- Hungry children struggle to stay on track with other students in school because they are more likely to experience headaches, stomachaches, colds, ear infections and fatigue.
IM KIDS 3rd Meal is supported by the Ionia County Intermediate School District and the Montcalm Area Intermediate School District. For more information about this program contact IM Kids 3rd Meal at firstname.lastname@example.org or 616-225-7264.
