HOLLAND, Mich. (WOTV) A friendship between two young students has blossomed into an inspiring story of community.

Ten year olds Keyan and Max met in first grade when Max stayed inside from recess to play with Keyan. She can’t go outside sometimes because of her health conditions. Keyan was born 13 weeks early in a set of quadruplets. She spent the majority of her first six years of life in the hospital. Despite her struggles, she is a happy and smart third grader at Lakeshore Elementary.

Max wanted to do something to help Keyan, so he organized a pop can fundraiser called “Cans for Keyan.” His original goal was $200. So far, he has raised $6,000. His parents say overwhelming support from the community helped make the fundraiser such a success.

You can help “Cans for Keyan” at a fundraising event on Tuesday, February 3 from 4 p.m. to close at Crazy Horse Steakhouse in Holland.
