Message to new moms: you are not alone

Mother and newborn baby

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Motherhood is hard, but when the challenges of having a new baby become overwhelming, there is help for women who are struggling. The Mother and Baby program at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services is one out of only three programs of its kind in the country. Women can get help with depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders related to pregnancy and motherhood.

What sets the Mother and Baby program apart is that women are encouraged to bring their babies with them. This option eliminates any barriers such as needing child care and babies are incorporated into many of the treatments. If the mother needs a break while she’s there, she is welcome to place her baby in the nursery.

The Mother and Baby program includes group sessions so women can share stories, relate to each other, and know they’re not alone. The program teaches good coping skills and gives each mother a set of tools that fits with her new role.

Pine Rest’s Mother and Baby program is available to anyone from pregnancy to up to two years postpartum. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Women can enter the program any day in that time frame. To learn more, visit their website, call 1-800-MOM-HOPE (666-4673), or call you OB-GYN or doctor.
