Age-appropriate chores for kids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  (WOTV)- A great way to teach your kids responsibility is to have them help around the house. Instilling the idea of “chores” is important for children to help them grow into responsible young adults.  But where do you start?  What’s appropriate?  Here’s some ideas of how to get your kids helping based on their ages.

TODDLERS (AGES 2-3)

•Help feed the pets.

•Pick up their toys.

•Clean up spills.

Pre-schooler (AGES 4-5)

•Help unload dishwasher (assisted by an adult)

•Empty the wastebaskets

•Water the plants or flowers

Young Children (AGES 6-8)

•Sort the laundry

•Help clear/wash the table after a meal

•Help put away some of the groceries

Older Kids (AGES 8+)

•Vacuum or sweep floor

•Walk the dog

•Make their bed
