GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) There’s something special happening at Silverberry Kitchen in Grand Rapids. The European Pastry Café is known for its pasties, a European dish that became very popular in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Pasties are like a cross between a pot pie and a calzone. They started around the 14th and 15th centuries in France before they were adopted by the British. When immigrants from Northern Europe came to work in the mines of the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin, they introduced the pasty as a portable and easy to eat meal.
Maranda steps into the kitchen at Silverberry Kitchen to learn how to make the perfect pasty.
