GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) The holiday season will officially be ushered in with parades across West Michigan this weekend! Check out those and other fun family activities in this week’s Five Star Family Fun Update.

Festival of Trees, Muskegon Museum of Art
Thursday, November 20 – Sunday, November 30
The museum galleries are transformed into a holiday display. Visitors can bid on themed trees, décor items, and donated gift baskets during ongoing silent auction. Special events include Teddy Bear Breakfast, Senior Day, and live musical entertainment.

Christmas Tree Lighting & Shop Sparta
Friday, November 21, 5 – 8 p.m.
See Santa’s reindeer, sample hot cocoa and roasted chestnuts, free horse and trolley rides. Official Christmas tree lighting by Santa at 6 p.m. at 200 E. Division St. Free!

Light Night, Washington Ave., Grand Haven
Friday, November 21, 5 – 8 p.m.
Washington Avenue is lit in an eye-catching display of seasonal lights. WGHN plays Christmas songs on the street. Hot chocolate and freshly roasted nuts available. Free Light Night commemorative mugs for the first 600 patrons. Local businesses offer special deals.

Family Night, Salvation Army Kroc Center, Grand Rapids
Friday, November 21, 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Activities and games start at 6 p.m. Movie starts at 7 p.m. All ages welcome. Free for members, no registration required.

White Lake Area Holiday Walk
Friday, November 21 – Saturday, November 22
The 20th annual walk takes visitors through the streets of Montague and Whitehall with dozens of participating businesses. Enjoy Christmas open houses, a visit from Santa Claus, a tree lighting ceremony Friday at 7 p.m., musical performances, carriage rides, and a Holiday Market at the Farmers Market. Grand Rapids Comic Con, DeltaPlex, Walker
Friday, November 21 – Sunday, November 23
Comic books, costume contests, celebrity appearances, vendors, and more. $12 adults, $5 kids 5-12, $35 three day pass. See website for hours.

Build a Gingerbread House, Greater Muskegon Woman’s Club
Friday, November 21 – Sunday, November 23
Instructions and materials provided to build your own gingerbread house. Have your picture taken with Santa. Walk-ins accepted as space permits. $15 per house with reservation, $20 at the door. $20 for a take-home kit (must be pre-ordered). Limit two people per house. A Christmas Story, Muskegon Civic Theatre
November 21 – 23, 28 – 30, December 4 – 7
Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas.

Holiday Kerstmarkt, Holland
Saturday, November 22 – Saturday, December 13
Open air market with wreaths, trees, hand-knit clothing wooden toys, ornaments, folk art, hand-made jewelry, snacks, and beverages. See website for hours.

Art Van Santa Parade, downtown Grand Rapids
Saturday, November 22, 9 a.m.
Annual Santa Parade winds through downtown Grand Rapids with floats, musical acts, and fun! Broadcasted live on WOOD TV8 starting at 9 a.m. See website for route.

Holiday Extravaganza, Antwerp Community Center, Mattawan
Saturday, November 22, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Visits and photos with Santa ($5 donation requested), free kids’ activity area, arts and crafts booths, health care area, scavenger hunt with grand prize.

Hudsonville Holiday Parade
Saturday, November 22, 10 a.m.
21st annual Hudsonville Holiday Parade runs along 32nd Avenue from Highland Drive to Central Blvd. Ends at Hudsonville Fire Station for hot beverages, snacks, and fun activities. Free!

The Firebird, DeVos Performance Hall, Grand Rapids
Saturday, November 22, 3 p.m.
The Grand Rapids Symphony presents a one hour concert with free pre-concert activities for kids 8-13. $15 adults, $9 kids. See website for tickets.

Battle Creek Christmas Parade
Saturday, November 22, 6 – 9 p.m.
See floats, an appearance by Santa, and celebrate the annual kick-off of the International Festival of Lights.

Holiday Open House, downtown Holland
Saturday, November 22, 6 – 9 p.m.
Stroll among art galleries, boutiques, and specialty shops for special holiday merchandise. Visits from Santa Claus, caroling, holiday treats, and free gift wrapping. Tree-lighting ceremony on 8th Street at 8 p.m.

“Elf” Special Screening, Celebration! Cinema North, Grand Rapids
Sunday, November 23, 3 p.m.
The hilarious holiday classic will be shown. Free for kids 12 and under and $5 for adult. Before the movie, enjoy holiday activities hosted by Broadway Grand Rapids.
