GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Students across West Michigan are involved in athletics, and parents want to do everything possible to keep them safe.

Jennifer Hoekstra from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention says sports injuries is the third top reason kids come to the hospital. More than a million kids went to the ER for sports-related injuries in 2013.

Preventing Sports Injuries

  • 42% of athletes have hidden their injury
  • Majority of reported injuries happen to 13 to 15 year olds
  • Parents and coaches should meet and be on the same page for sports safety

If you suspect your child has an injury, take them to see their doctor or go to an urgent care facility or emergency room.
