Just $2 will help feed local kids heading back to school

IM Kids 3rd Meal, Ionia ISD

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) IM Kids 3rd Meal, a non-profit which started last school year provides sack dinners to food insecure elementary students. The organization just kicked off their campaign, and they hope to raise $10,000 by the end of October.

Just $2 is the cost of making one child’s sack dinner. In return of the donation, contributors will receive special ‘perks’, ranging from social media shout-outs, bumper stickers and IM Kids T-shirts.

The new project to collect $2 per donation comes from the recent fundraising trend of ‘crowdfunding’, which allows users to sort through hundreds of projects in need of financial support, and contributing any dollar amount to any project. Child hunger advocates have recently decided to join the project in hopes of securing donations to feed local kids.

Why help?

  • In Ionia County 1 in 5 children are food insecure and in Montcalm County 1 in 4 are food insecure.
  • Lack of healthy food can impair a child’s ability to concentrate and perform well in school.
  • Hungry children struggle to stay on track with other students in school because they are more likely to experience headaches, stomachaches, colds, ear infections and fatigue.

IM Kids’ started supplying ‘3rd Meals’ to students at Walnut Hills Elementary in Greenville and Emerson Elementary in Ionia this past spring. To date, over seventeen thousand ‘3rd Meals’ have been supplied.

The IM Kids’ 3rd Meal is providing $2 dinners to 380 kids, 5 days a week and 9 months a year. Unfortunately the food grant runs out this September; and the program needs help.

IM Kids’ campaign will be accessible for donations here on Indiegogo from now until October 4th.
