Flick’s Family Film Festival, Celebration! Cinema
Friday, August 29 – Thursday, September 4
Free movie, “The Nut Job,” for kids under 12 years old. Adults are $5. Show times will be available on Tuesday evenings the week the movie starts.

Belding Labor Day Celebration
Friday, August 29 – Monday, September 1
Twilight parade on Friday at 9 p.m., Arts on the Bridge, “Belding’s Got Talent” talent show. Kiddie Parade on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., followed by pet show at 1 p.m.

Saturday, August 30
Sparta Rodeo, Sparta Rodeo Grounds
Saturday, August 30, 3 p.m.
A family-friendly full rodeo including barrel racing, saddle bronc, bull riding and team roping. Live concert before each rodeo. Gates open at 3 p.m. and rodeo starts at 5 p.m. Adults $12, children 6-17 $8, 5 and under are free.

All-Crafts Fair, Stanley Johnston Park, South Haven
Saturday, August 30, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Hundreds of exhibitors of fine arts and crafts. Food booths with casual and gourmet fare. Free admission!

Taste of Traverse City Festival, (Traverse City)
Taste samples from local restaurants, breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Attend cooking demos/seminars, shop, experience the Pizza Throwdown and Dining in the Dark! The festival takes place from noon – 6 p.m.

Michigan State Fair (Novi)
The Michigan State Fair, now sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi over Labor Day Weekend. Like days of old, the fair will include livestock exhibits, circus performers, entertainment tents, a beer garden, and midway. Tickets start at $6 an adult. The fair takes place Aug. 29 – Sept. 1.

Family Fun Night at the Holland Museum (Holland)
Did your childhood imagination let you soar above the clouds in Never Never Land or triumph over booby traps in search of Chester Copperpot’s hidden treasure? This month’s Family Fun Night at the Holland Museum gives children the opportunity to create their own fantasy world, much like those in the movies.On August 30 between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m., families are invited to view the historic Dutch kasts, or wardrobes, housed in the Museum’s Dutch Galleries. Drawing supplies will be provided to illustrate what they believe exists on the other side of the wardrobe. At 7:00 p.m., attendees will move to the Holland Armory for a viewing of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire (Grand Rapids)
Maker Faire is coming to Grand Rapids! The first annual Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for August 30 & 31, at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Maker Faire combines the traditional science fair with innovation and engineering capitalizing on the Maker movement for something entirely new.

Kayak/Canoe the Grand! (Grand Rapids)
This tour includes transportation to the drop-off point,safety and paddle instruction,pick up from the docking point, rental of watercraft for two people(2 kayaks/1 canoe),paddles and safety equipment.Normal rental rate of two kayaks including transportation is $20 per person.

Movie Night at the Holland Armory
Saturday, August 30, 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Visit the museum from 6 to 7 p.m., then watch “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Free!

Sunday, August 31
Muskegon’s Cars for Cancer, Mercy Health Partners Lakes Village
Sunday, August 31, 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.
The 10th annual cars for cancer event. Door prizes, kids games, grocery giveaway. Sunday night kickoff party at 5 p.m. and cruise at 6:30 p.m. Free admission!

2014 Michigan Renaissance Festival (Holly)
Take a time-travel adventure into the 16th century at the 36th annual Michigan Renaissance Festival! Join our Queen Elizabeth in a jubilee! Inside our turreted gates, visitors enjoy the sights and sounds of a 17-acre village, complete with building reproductions of Renaissance shops, taverns and a magnificent castle. Continuous entertainment takes place on the streets and on 17 themed stages; featuring full-contact armored jousting, comedy and theater shows, music, games, people-powered rides and so much more! Fabulous food and more than 300 artisans displaying their gallery-quality works complete the experience! The Festival takes place Aug. 16 – Sept. 28.

Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk, St. Ignace
Monday, September 1, 7 a.m.
Join thousands of walkers for the annual five-mile trek across the Mackinac Bridge – the only day of the year pedestrians are allowed on the bridge! Walkers can start any time between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Bus transportation is available to return you to St. Ignace.

Grand Crossings Labor Day Walk, Ah-Nab-Awen Park, Grand Rapids
Monday, September 1, 8 a.m.
Walk as many as five miles through downtown Grand Rapids, over several bridges. Wheelchair accessible and appropriate for all fitness levels. Mayor George Heartwell will lead the walk starting at 8 a.m. Free parking in City lots Area 7 by Big Boy and in the Scribner lot. Free!

Labor Day Boardwalk, Heinz Waterfront Walkway, Holland
Monday, September 1, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The walk begins at 8 a.m. and ends at Windmill Island Gardens. There will be a continental breakfast and transportation to return to the Heinz Waterfront Walkway. Free!

Muskegon Community Labor Day 5K Run & Walk
Monday, September 1, 8 a.m.
Free community event! Check in at 8 a.m. 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. Walk starts at 9:30 a.m. To register or purchase a t-shirt, call (231) 724-6705.

Labor Day Community Bridge Walk, Grand Haven
Monday, September 1, 9 a.m.
Meet on the north side of the 3rd Street Bridge. 3.5 mile walk ends at Chinook Pier. Free! Chance to win prizes from local businesses!

The Labor Day Truck Parade & Ice Cream Social, Zeeland & Holland
Monday, September 1, 9:15 a.m.
Parade with big trucks, ice cream and hot dogs! Starts in Zeeland, ends in Holland. Free!

Saugatuck Labor Day Bridge Walk & Pancake Breakfast
Monday, September 1, 9 a.m.
Walk starts on the Douglas side of the Blue Star Bridge and proceeds to the Saugatuck side. Call (269) 857-1444 for details.

Tall Ships Visit Muskegon, Heritage Landing
Wednesday, August 27 – Monday, September 1, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Tour the Nina and the Pinta and learn about life aboard a ship in the 15th century. $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (60+), $6 for ages 5-16, ages 4 and under are free!
