GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Go beyond the average sand castle next time your family is at the beach. Take a look at these creative ideas for fun with sand, courtesy of Parents Magazine.
For a twist on Pictionary, ask your child to sketch an item from a specific category, like animals or movies, using the beach as her canvas. Then try to guess what it is.
To create a quirky family portrait, have everyone draw a face in the sand. Then ask each person to stand so his head shadow falls over the face he drew — the goofier the better. Snap a photo of your family’s shadows with “sand faces.”
Take a bucketful of sand with you when leaving the beach. Once you’re home, pack the sand into an aluminum pie tin. Press your child’s hand into the sand, then remove it and pour plaster of Paris over her print. When it dries, you’ll have a keepsake from your trip.
