Gilda’s Club is changing lives with free programs to the public

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) When you think of Gilda’s Club, LaughFest probably comes to mind, though the non-profit organization gives much more to the West Michigan community. Gilda’s Club provides grief and Cancer counseling for families and individuals. Because of community donations, Gilda’s Club is able to able to offer all of the programs free to the public.

The organization offers a free, comprehensive support program for children (ages 3-18) who are grieving from the death of a friend or family member due to cancer or other health-related issues, accident, murder or suicide. Children can find support among their peers within the special groups for teens, “tweens” and younger children. Many of the adult groups meet at the same time as the children’s groups; click here for details. All of the Gilda’s Club groups are facilitated by Master’s Degree-level professionals. Here’s a closer look at how donations can help:

__$1,000         Cost of providing one social event for 125 of our members for an evening.

__$500            Provides one month of transportation for our Gilda’s Club van.

__$300            Provides supper for 80 people for one night of programming.

­­__$200            Provides one child the opportunity to attend Camp Sparkle in the summer.

__$150            Provides five outreach hours for our minority coordinator.

__$50              Provides grief books for five children.

__$35              Provides one person one visit to Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids.
