Preps for returning to the classroom

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) As kids head back to the classroom, many of them will have fears and anxiety, and as parents and adults, they’ll need some guidance to help them along the way. Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services can help parents help their children.

Vanessa Hogarth says parents are probably already dealing with the questions of early bedtimes, and that school does start very soon.

It’s important to let your kids know it’s okay to be nervous, especially if they’re starting school for the first time, or starting a new school. If they haven’t been to school, it’s a good idea to get them used to where they are going, go ahead and drive by or walk to the school.

It’s also a good idea to start a countdown to school calendar. It helps visualize the process for your children. Add on the days you’re going school shopping or things they want to do before school starts. It helps them take ownership of the situation.
