Maranda: A rare everyday hero

DETROIT, Mich (WOTV) For 26 years, Maranda has made it her life’s mission to be an advocate for families and children in West Michigan. One young woman has been so touched by Maranda’s achievements and efforts in the community that she nominated Maranda for an award. Maranda recently traveled to Detroit to accept the Winning Futures 2014 RARE Everyday Heroes Award.

Maranda was nominated by Jenna Decker. Jenna recently graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and will go to Calvin College in the fall.

To be an ‘Everyday Hero,’ one has to be a proven leader, selfless and committed to enhancing the lives of others. Five heroes were selected through a student essay contest where students shared compelling and personal arguments as to why their nominee should be honored.
