ALLENDALE, Mich. (WOTV) The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District makes learning fun with Sundae School. It is an experience for elementary school students to learn about local scoop shops, the business behind them, and how to be a real entrepreneur. During the four-day program, students collect research, find out what customers like, what goes into a good sundae, and how to communicate and effectively market it to the community.
The OAISD partners with 13 different scoop shops, where the program is based for the whole week. Students get hands-on experience, talking to customers, taste testing, and developing their own sundae.
The owners of each shop talk to students about their establishment, what they offer, and how their business works.
The goal is to have kids learn problem solving skills, critical thinking, and also about local businesses and the community.
The kindergarten group at Get the Scoop in Allendale swept both the Kid Vote and the Overall Favorite. Their creation was called “Secret Oreo Explosion.” The ingredients were vanilla ice cream, deep fried Oreo, cookie dough pieces, waffle cone pieces, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and cherries.
