Join the Grand Rapids community to honor the brave and amazing life of one of our own. The 2nd annual David Warsen Legacy 5K Run / Hero Walk is schedule for August 9th, 2014, at East Kentwood High School to honor the Amazing Life of Navy SEAL SO2, David Warsen.
Warsen, a 2004 East Kentwood graduate and proud member of SEAL Team THREE, was killed in Afghanistan on August 16, 2012, along with 10 other service members, six from the United States & four from Afghanistan, after their UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter was shot down by enemy fire. His memory is kept alive through the David Warsen Legacy foundation – established by his mother, Patty Vroon-Frank, fiancé Karlyn Deveau, and cousin Sarah Johnson.
New to this year’s event, the Hero Walk will also be held within the East Kentwood football stadium and is featuring a ‘Field of Flags’ to honor fallen heroes, while photos and custom banners will recognize veterans, those who are currently serving, and the fallen. Submissions can be sent to email@example.com, thru July 29th. The Michigan Military Memorial Wall, honoring those lost in the Vietnam War in addition to the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars will also be on display.
