BYRON CENTER, Mich. (WOTV) When you think of school supplies, you don’t always think of Santa. But Denise Kooiker combines them both to make sure local students in need of supplies can start the school year out right.

As “School Supply Santa,” Kooiker gathers donated school supplies to distribute to eight different school districts in West Michigan. All you have to do is buy the school supplies and drop them off at any of the 60 drop-off locations across West Michigan, including any KDL library branch.

It’s easy to help without breaking your own budget! Kooiker recommends taking your child’s own school supplies list and double it. Or look for sales and stock up. Any school supplies are welcome!

Items needed:

  • New or gently used backpacks
  • Calculators
  • Crayons
  • Pencils
  • Notebooks
  • Folders
  • Rulers
  • Glue
  • Washable markers
  • Pencil boxes
  • Kleenex packets
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Any school supplies are welcome!

Donations will be accepted August 1 through 22. For more information, visit the School Supply Santa Facebook page and send Kooiker a message!
