Children laugh, live and love through Gilda’s Club Grief Programs

Children talk about their grief journey through the help of Gilda's Club Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)  When you think of Gilda’s Club, you often think of Gilda’s LaughFest, but the organization does so much more. Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids is a free cancer support community of children, adults, families and friends. Gilda’s Club offers many programs for community members who are seeking grief support and Cancer support.

The organization offers a free, comprehensive support program for children (ages 3-18) who are grieving from the death of a friend or family member due to cancer or other health-related issues, accident, murder or suicide. Children can find support among their peers within the special groups for teens, “tweens” and younger children. Many of the adult groups meet at the same time as the children’s groups; click here for details. All of our groups are facilitated by Master’s Degree-level professionals. Here are a list of some of the children’s programs:

Children affected by cancer, and children who have a family member or friend with cancer, need a program that addresses their specific journey. Our Youth Program offers a variety of activities aimed at supporting children and families on their own cancer or grief journey and fills important psychosocial needs by making the cancer experience part of ordinary life.
