GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Now that summer is in full swing, here is a list of fun things to do that are free or low-cost! Check out these activities for the week of July 28 – August 1 in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Spring Lake, Muskegon and more!

Monday, July 28
MARANDA’S PICK: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day at Hope College (Holland)
This delightful musical adaption of the popular children’s book follows feisty Alexander and a series of unforgettable events that occurs throughout his day. Waking up with gum in his hair are just a few of the obstacles e encounters. Alexander allows young audiences to identify with him and ultimately reveals that bad days happen to everyone – even in Australia. Showing at 1:30 p.m. For more showtimes, visit the link above.

Recycling Crafts and Movies (Grand Rapids)
On Monday, come to the Kent County Recycling and Education Center for a free family activity! Join us during our open hours from 1 to 3:30 p.m. each week to make crafts out of recycled goods or to watch a family-friendly movie. Drop in for the crafts at any time between 1 to 3:30 p.m. Movies will start around 1:15 p.m.

Weaving Tales at Meijer Gardens (Grand Rapids)
Experience the wonders of weaving every Monday through interactive stories and “fingers-on” activities. Join a professinal weaver and our own story time volunteers for this unique opportunity to help create a Children’s Garden tapestry. Event begins at 10 a.m.

Ada Mudroom Kids Day (Ada) 
$1 Kids Day. Kids get studio fees for just $1 per person on Mondays for children 15 years old or younger who are painting independently.

Tuesday, July 29
Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival Kids Day (Grand Haven)
Enjoy games, crafts, entertainment, and events for kids from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.!  Get your photo taken on the Red Carpet and then look for it on the Facebook page. Come play in the Meijer Virtual Playground, or at Allstate’s Safe Kids booth. Attractions are FREE! Food at nominal prices.

Outdoor Artist Studio at Meijer Gardens (Grand Rapids)
This event is free to attend and begins at 6:30 p.m. Explore materials such as clay, paint, paper, and pastels for children and adults as you enjoy the lively atmosphere in the children’s garden.

Wednesday, July 30
MARANDA’S PICK: Wristband Wednesday at Craig’s Cruisers (Grand Rapids, Holland, and Muskegon)
Experience a variety of attractions at Craig’s Cruisers where you can enjoy several activities for one price! Please visit the attached link to see the attractions included and the rates for each location.

Cappon Family Market Day at Holland Farmers Market (Holland)
Along with the staff from the Holland Museum, kids will learn how different shopping for groceries was during the Victorian era when the Cappon Family was alive. They’ll get the chance to “shop” from various stores and learn how our ancestors preserved food before the modern-day refrigerator was invented! Event is free and takes place from 9:30 a.m. – noon.

Kalamazoo Nature Center Farmyard Wednesdays: Pigtastic (Kalamazoo)
Enjoy farmyard programs on Wednesday mornings this summer! Farmyard Wednesdays: Pigtastic Pigs are amazing animals. Root around the farm yard and experience a day in the life of a pig. Fee is $2 per participating child (in addition to regular admission). No registration is required, just drop in! For children 2- 8 years, accompanied by an adult.

Thursday, July 31
MARANDA’S PICK: Last Maranda Park Party of the Summer (Battle Creek)
Join us at the final Maranda Park Party for the summer at Northwestern Middle School in Battle Creek. Free lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and Park Party fun goes from noon – 2 p.m.

Kevin Kammeraad and the Cooperfly Puppet Troupe (Byron Center) 
Don’t miss this quirky crew of characters examining some various components and styles of puppetry. You’ll laugh and learn, while having a great time in this musical, interactive show for all ages! Show is free and begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Byron Center Branch Library.

Grand Rapids Children’s Museum Birthday Bash! (Grand Rapids)
Help us celebrate 17 years of play at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.! We have a special Birthday Bash planned on Sheldon Ave in front of the museum! This year’s free event will be full of beach-themed carnival games, including a sea-shell matching game, feed the fish bean bag toss, ring toss, sno-cones, and more!

Friday, August 1
Disney’s Camp Rock the Musical at GR Civic Theatre (Grand Rapids)
When Mitchie Torres returns to Camp Rock, she discovers that Camp Star has opened just on the other side of the lake, threatening Camp Rock. Mitchie and friends must step up their game to save the camp. Visit the link above for showtimes and ticket prices.
