GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)- Sunny skies and a light breeze made for a lovely day for a Park Party, attracting more than 5,300 smiling faces to the Ionia County Fairgrounds. The Park Party kicked off the 99th annual Ionia Free Fair, the largest free fair in the world! It was the third party in a series of five events that will be celebrating 20 years of free family fun with Maranda.
“We’re so grateful to our corporate partners and vendors along with the community support that allows us to keep the Park Parties going week after week, year after year, 20 years and counting,” said Maranda!
The Ionia Park Party hosted thousands of local families who came early to enjoy a free picnic-style lunch courtesy of the Michigan Department of Education and the area public schools. Goodwill gave out McDonald’s gift cards to the first 100 families, who brought a donation of gently used clothing. The ESCAPE Entertainment Stage rocked all afternoon with fun acts for kids by local kids.
The Ionia County Fairgrounds were filled with vendors providing a variety of free services, information and activities. The birthday themed celebration included cupcakes, ice cream, balloons, free photos, snacks and prize from generous partners and community organizations. After the party ended, families enjoyed a circus with free elephant rides at the fair.
