Sizzle List: Free car seat safety checks across West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Did you know that car seats reduce the chance of injury and death by nearly 70 percent, but only when properly installed? Sadly, four out of five car seats are not installed correctly. The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Program and Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids are committed to improving these numbers by educating people in West Michigan on ways to stay safe.

Learn how to keep your child riding safe with the safety events across West Michigan. All dates listed below.

Thursday, July 10 – Car Seat Safety Check @ the Cutlerville Fire Department (11 68th Street) noon – 3:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 10 – Car Seat Safety Check @ the Wyoming Fire Department (1500 Burton SW) 5 – 8 p.m.

Friday, July 11 – Car Seat Safety Check @ the Walker Fire Department (4101 Lake Michigan Drive) – noon – 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 15 – Car Seat Safety Check @ Kentwood Fire Department (4775 Walma) – noon – 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 15 – Car Seat Safety Check @ the Plainfield Fire Department (4343 Plainfield) – 5 – 8 p.m.

Wednesday, July 16 – CAMP 911 with Life EMS @ the Walker Fire Department ( ) Camp runs from 9 – 4, our injury prevention part is from 9 – 10:30 but there is cool stuff all day.

Wednesday, July 16 – Car Seat Safety Check @ the Rockford Fire Department (7 South Monroe) – noon – 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 16 – Infant Car Seat Safety for Expectant Parents @ Healthier Communities (665 Seward Ave.) – 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 17 – CAMP 911 @ Plainfield Fire Department (4343 Plainfield) Camp runs from 9 – 4, Injury prevention from 9 – 10:30 with fun events happening all day.

Monday July 21 – 24, National Certification Course held at the Caledonia Fire Department 8 – 5 each day.
Thursday, July 24 – Car Seat Safety Check @ the Grand Rapids Fire Department (2541 Kalamazoo) – noon – 3:30 p.m.
*Certification Courses will be taught by Jennifer Hoekstra, National Instructor of the Year by the National Child Passenger Safety Board.
Appointments are required at the Wyoming, Alpine and Plainfield Fire Departments and encouraged at Saint Mary’s Health Care. Please call 616.391.7233 to schedule.
